Custer County voters will be able to use either paper ballots or electronic voting machines. The electronic voting system is accurate, secure, and easy to use. The system has two components: the eSlate that is accessible to people who are visually or mobility impaired and the Verifiable Ballot Option (VBO), which is connected to the eSlate and provides a printed verification of your chosen votes before casting them. As always, voters will sign-in when coming to the polls. Voters wishing to use paper ballots will be given the appropriate ballot to carry into the voting booth for filling out. Voters wishing to use the electronic voting system will be given a four-digit, randomly generated access code to enter into any available voting machine. Clear instructions will be available in each voting booth. Voters wanting help can press a help button on the machine to notify a poll worker they need assistance. At the end of the voting process, the printer will automatically print a verification page so you can review the summary of your choices on paper before casting your ballot. An accessible voting machine equipped with headphone and special switches will be available at each polling place for those who are blind, visually impaired or who have limited dexterity that has prohibited them from being able to mark their ballot privately and independently in the past.
